I hate making resolutions because it's pretty well known that most people don't keep them. I don't want to proclaim something I'm going to do better with and then not keep it and others are watching going, "I knew she would never do it." :) I was going to say that one resolution would be to blog more and hopefully one day make it back on Paul's blog roll! I know, that's a hard one there! I'm not saying this is my resolution (because seriously, really????), but I'll try to do better. My kickboxing instructor always tells me never to say try because you're already admitting defeat. I don't agree with that, though.
So with that said, I'm now going to make "Easy No Rise Cinnamon Rolls" for Xander and Joseph. I'm hoping they're as easy as they say and that my broil only oven will cook them nicely. Keep your fingers crossed!!! :)
(See, Paul, I'm already doing better! The first day of the new year and I have a new post!) :P

Christmas night movie...not a good idea!
I know I haven't blogged in a while, but life is just really busy. Most people who read my blog see me often so they know what's going on in my life. I don't feel I need to write because who wants to read about something they already know about. Well, tonight I have a funny/crazy story that only 6 people know about. This is blog-worthy.
So tonight Emily, Jared, Joseph, Chris, Jason, and I went to Patton Creek to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I've been waiting to see this movie and was really excited. That excitement went down the tubes when Jason called to say that it was sold out. We called other places, but it seemed like this was not our night to see a movie. We debated what to do in the empty Dick's parking lot and finally decided we would try the new theatre close to Bessemer. It was busy there, but we got in to see "Yes Man." Surprisingly, there were only a few people in that room. A little into the movie, kids (middle to high schoolers) started coming in and yelling things and then running out. It was quite annoying, but we continued watching the movie. A few minutes after that, a kid ran in with a camera phone and flashed a picture. I immediately (to my groups' horror) jumped up and took off after the kids. I told the group of kids that we were trying to watch a movie that we paid for and if they were going to keep coming in and disrupting it then they could pay me the $8 I paid to get in. I told them to leave and quit coming in. I was suprised that they walked out and didn't say anything. The whole time I'm giving them this short lecture, I was walking them out the door. Once out I found a employee and told him the problem. He came in and chased a few out, so I thanked him and went back to my seat. A little while later another group came running in talking loudly and disrupting the movie. I immediately jumped up, gave the kids my disapproving teacher look, and went to find the manager. He came in and said they were trying to get everyone out and if I could point out the kids, he'd check their tickets and get rid of those who didn't belong. I pointed out a few and he went around checking tickets. When another group of kids came in a while later, Joseph grabbed my arm and said to leave it alone. He'd followed me out the first two times to make sure I wasn't getting ganged up on by the mob of teens and I guess he didn't want to get up again. I didn't get up even though groups came in and out about 2 or 3 more times. After the movie, Jared and I talked to the manager and he gave us all (plus other groups that came from our theatre) free passes. They claimed that this had never happened before, but I don't know. Joseph told me to walk with Jared in case any of the kids recognized me and tried to jump me. I just laughed. As I told the manager, I'm a middle school teacher and I deal with this kind of stuff on a regular basis. I just don't like doing it when I'm not at school. As we left, I did hear a group say, "There's that lady...." I just smiled and kept walking. One day I might get jumped, but that's why I'm learning a lot of self defense in my kickboxing class. I just might have to use it one day! :)
Oh, and there were about 4 police cars outside the theatre when we left. So next year when Chris suggests going to a movie on Christmas night, I'm going to laugh and say...well, I'll probably say yes! I'm a glutton for punishment! :P

I'm just a regular person!
Very often I'm told something that baffles me. My students tell me, the people I work with tell me, people I just meet on the street tell me..."You look just like Hilary Swank!" I don't see this at all. Not even a little. Going to Ohio recently, a lady on a plane stopped me in the aisle and asked if I was a movie star. After telling her no, she said looked at me like, "I know who you are, but I'll play along with your cover-up." I said, "I'm just a regular person." By this time, others around us were staring at me. It was flattering, but embarrassing. Someone I worked with this summer just told me he finally figured out who I looked like...Million Dollar Baby. All I say is, "I get that a lot!" When people used to say Emily and I looked like twins, I couldn't really see that, but it was understandable. I used to get a lot of people telling me Jennifer Garner. I don't see that one either, but, hey, I'll take the compliments! All I have to say is...I'M JUST A REGULAR PERSON! :)

Tag...I'm it!
The Six Word Memoir
This idea came from the book by Larry Smith and Rachel Fershleiser called Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure . The book is a compilation that is based on the story that Hemingway once bet ten dollars that he could sum up his entire life in just six words. His words? For Sale: baby shoes, never worn.
Here are the rules:
1. Write your own six word memoir.
2. Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you’d like.
3. Link to the person that tagged you in your post and to this if possible so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere.
4. Tag five more blogs with links.
5. And don’t forget to leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play!
I'd like to thank my good friend CL for tagging me! I've been thinking about my 6 words to describe my life. It's been a hard thing to decide on. I mean, it's got to be good...got to describe my life...but can't be too cheesy. So here it is:
My life...What will happen next?
Life has been full of ups and downs, but mostly ups. My family has been through a lot, but we've had fun. The thing is...I just never know what life has in store for me. I hope my "next" is something really good! :D

Ohio
The trip to Ohio was quite an adventure! We weren't sure we were going to get there when we were supposed to or all together because our flight was delayed and that put us missing our connecting flight. Thankfully everything worked out for us and we made it to Ohio on time. I think we made a mistake by giving Dad his GPS before we left. If this flight messed up like the last time we flew, I knew Dad was heading out of the airport and back home to drive to Ohio! I don't see his logic that driving is better, but I'll just let him have his crazy opinion. :)
39 people in one house!!! What in the world?!?! Thankfully Aunt Deb's house is big enough to hold us all! But with 39 people in one house, you can't expect to get much sleep. I slept in the basement/gameroom/workroom with 10-15 other people (maybe even more than that...I lost count)! We played a ton of cards and other games. We mainly did a LOT of talking! Imagine that! A lot of talking going on where there are a lot of Woodmancys! :D My ears have just now quit ringing! Coming back to Birmingham, I had to inform Dad that he was still using his Woodmancy voice. Even though they are loud, I love my family! They are so crazy and so much fun! You never know what to expect from them! :) I had so much fun and didn't want to leave, but I have to admit that I love sleeping in my own bed and not having to fight for a bathroom! I can't wait for our next reunion! Hopefully we'll be at G'Dad and G'Ma's house next time!

Summer of fun
This has been a fun and relaxing summer so far! I've really enjoyed my two weeks working at the zoo. I just hope it continues. I really want my summer job to last more than 2 weeks. Working at the zoo is hot and there's a lot of walking, but I love it!
Joseph and I took Xander to camp Sunday night to visit and hear Cornerstone. Now Xander wants to go for longer than just a few hours, so maybe we'll get to take him next year. This should be a fun upcoming year...Xander wants to go to camp and to Lads to Leisures! :) I'm glad! I pray he always wants to do things with the church! He's my buddy and I love him to pieces! Xander spent the night with me Sunday night and what a crazy night it was. I can't say I got much sleep. It's not easy to sleep with two little legs thrown over your waist. He twists and turns so much, I can't believe he got any sleep. But when he woke up in the morning he said, "Did I sleep good?" It was so cute! His was barely awake at that point, but so ready to start the day. He said, "I love the morning time!" And then he let me hug on him for a few minutes! After this I couldn't mind not getting any sleep the night before.

Fun in Montgomery
Well, Joseph and I went to Montgomery for another visit. This time we had some big plans for Friday. KAYAKING! I'll admit that I was extremely nervous and wasn't sure this was something I was going to enjoy, but, hey...why not try something new, right? I like to try new things like this, so I was being brave. I prayed most of the way to the drop off. We rented kayaks (except Joseph who owns his own) and then the place we rented from drove us to the dropoff spot in a van. When they first pushed me out on the water, I was so scared, but I quickly got used to being out on the water and paddling. I HAD A BLAST! I can't wait to go again. We brought granola/power bars and water and other snacks and Joseph put them in the back of his kayak where there's a nice compartment. Bad thing...if you flip your kayak with everyone's food in it, the food might just get wet. Thankfully we put everything in ziplock bags, but Keith's Pringles weren't in a baggie and they were ruined. I'm glad he enjoyed a few before they became waterlogged. The fish and birds had a nice snack out on the river. (Oh, and we were on the Coosa, in case you were wondering.) During the trip down the Coosa, we took a few breaks to either have a snack or just to rest. Paddling uses a ton of energy! I thought I'd be terribly sore the following day, but surprisingly, I wasn't. (It's all those hard workouts at IronWorks, right Rachel?!) We didn't really have a ton of scary parts, like whitewater rafting, but there were a few fun parts where we had to go over waves and stuff. It was fun! Everytime I would either yell until I got out of the worst of it, or I'd say over and over, "Please, God, don't let me tip! Don't let me tip!" I really didn't want to go flying out of the kayak and have to worry with getting back in. And the whole hitting your head on rocks wasn't a fun thought either. Thankfully, I never flipped! After this we went back and cleaned up and then went out to eat. We were starved, but Lindsey and I really wanted to shower before we went to eat anywhere. The guys weren't okay with this, but they relented (like they should).
Lindsey, Cary, and I went to "scary church" later that night. We were waiting for Katie to get there and we thought we'd do this Faulkner thing to waste time. It was fun, but it really is a scary church when there's no lights out. Several friends, and some new friends, came over that night and hung out for a while. It was also a lot of fun!
Saturday Lindsey and I went to eat lunch with Carol Leah, Tommy, and Thomas and played RockBand. I'm addicted to that game and really want one! But I'm not sure if it'd be wise to spend several hundred dollars to buy not only the Rock Band stuff, but also a gaming system so I can actually play it. When Thomas woke up from his nap, he showed us how a real rockstar plays the drums, the guitar, and sings! :)
Later Lindsey and I cooked supper for Chad and Taylor. It was fun to make, but I'll say that it wasn't the best thing ever. Oh, well! Trying is fun! After telling Chad and Taylor about playing RockBand, they decided to buy it and we ended up going to their house to play for a while. I had so much fun! Well...except for the singing part. The others did well, but I stunk! I can't sing and I don't really know most of the songs anyway, but at least I tried.
Joseph and I left early Sunday morning so we could be at Sylvan Springs for David and Susan's surprise party. And, as most of you reading this know, VBS started Sunday night. Tomorrow is the last night, and though I hate to see VBS end, I think I'm ready. After working at the zoo for not quite 5 hours every morning, I'm exhausted by the time I get home.
The zoo has been so much fun so far! I hope the rest of the summer is as much fun. It's hot, it's tiring, there's a lot of walking (a.k.a. dragging kids around), but it's fun and my kids are super cute! I have 12 5 year olds in my group. We are the Cheetahs! I have two teen helpers, and one has been with me everyday. He's been a great big help and I hope he keeps working with me! Only two more days with this groups! I'm going to be sad to see them go because I've just loved having them in my group! Maybe I'll see them again!
I have pics to post, but it's too late now, so look for the pics later!
